Renovation work is complete for the new SD Kells menswear store in Portadown’s Market Street.
The firm has confirmed that stocking-up will start this weekend, with a view to opening as soon as possible.
The Fermanagh-based departmental store indicated several months ago that Portadown would be the next development, with the long-vacant former Poundstretcher premises at 6 Market Street the venue.
Said Ian Kells, a director of the company, “The exact opening date has still to be determined, but once the stocking-up is complete, we will move as quickly as possible.”
As well as a welcome boost to the town, the store will mean more jobs in the retail sector, and it will bring to 10 the number of Kells stores in Northern Ireland, added to their six Regatta Clearance stores.
The nucleus is built around the Kells ‘homeland’ of Fermanagh, with stores in Enniskillen, Lisnaskea and Irvinestown, as well as nearby Omagh.
Moving east, there are shops in Lurgan, Banbridge, Larne, Belfast and Newtownards, and the Portadown store will be an attractive addition to the town centre, which has suffered a number of closures in recent months.
The company also has six Regatta Clearance outlets on its website, including the successful one at Magowan Buildings in Portadown.
Kells stock various fashions at their individual stores, ranging from ladies’ to men’s and children’s to hire. The Portadown store will concentrate on men’s fashions.
