Natalie Louise Dowds (24), Baltylum Meadows, Portadown, was fined £250 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy for driving without insurance on March 14 this year.

She was also given eight penalty points. With six points already on her licence she was banned for six months on the tot up system.

A fine of £60 was imposed for having a defective rear light on the same date.

The court heard that a police mobile patrol on the Drumgor Road noticed a defective rear light on a vehicle.

They stopped the car, which was being driven by the defendant, and a check of the database showed there was no insurance in place for the vehicle. The policy had been cancelled because of non payment.

A solicitor for Dowds said because of complications with her pregnancy she had been on long term sick leave and there had been a drop in her wages.

He added that she did not have sufficient funds to pay the direct debit and she did not get the letter from the insurance company because she had moved back in with her parents. The solicitor said she already had six points on her licence for permitting no insurance. She had been driving but felt unwell and her boyfriend took the driver’s seat.
