After putting a Ralph Lauren handbag into a plastic bag in the fitting rooms of a store a 33-year-old
woman left without paying for the bag.

Reda Matuleviciene, whose address was given to the court as The Beeches, Portadown, was fined £200 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

She pleaded guilty to the theft of a Ralph Lauren handbag and skin care products, valued at £169.97, from TK Maxx on May 30 this year.

The court heard that police were called to the store where a female had been detained on suspicion of shoplifting, including a Ralph Lauren handbag valued at £129.99.

She was seen carrying a plastic bag and going into the fitting rooms with the handbag.

When she left the rooms she handed back clothing to staff but there was no sign of the handbag.

She spent some time in the shop before leaving.

The defendant was located in the mall and the handbag and skin products were found in the plastic bag.

All the items were fit for re-sale.

When interviewed she said she noticed that the security tag was loose on the handbag so she decided to take it.

The defendant, who pleaded guilty herself, told the court: “I did the biggest mistake of my life.”

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said she had no previous record and he would deal with her by way of a fine.
