Thought he was covered to drive

When he drove a friend's vehicle because his friend was over the drink drive limit a 26-year-old man thought he was covered by his insurance.

But that was not the case and last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court he was fined £200 for driving without insurance on July 18 this year.

Paul Cowan, Markethill Road, Portadown, was also given six penalty points.

The court heard he was stopped on the Brownlow Road in Craigavon and police checks revealed there was no insurance in place.

A solicitor representing Cowan said this was his client’s friend’s vehicle and Cowan was driving because his friend was over the limit.

He explained that the defendant thought he was covered to drive.

He had since rectified the situation.
