Thousands of people have inundated Craigavon’s new Omniplex Cinema for jobs weeks before it is due to open.
Owner Paul Anderson said Omniplex are considering 100 applicants for the post of general manager alone with thousands having already responded to social media advertising of the post.
The £4.5m eight-screen cinema, which is set to open in eight weeks, is expected to employ almost 100 people. It will be advertising for general staff and cleaning staff within weeks.
Mr Anderson said the building work is on schedule with the opening earmarked for Wednesday, March 25. All four food outlets at the site have been let although Mr Anderson is unable to reveal the identity of the tenants at this stage.
The Dublin-based entertainment mogul revealed that there had been more than 40,000 comments, tweets and responses in relation to the advert seeking a general manager plus up to 6,000 posts on the firm’s website.
“I am delighted that we are on track. The opening is eight weeks away. Although we are a business, this will be a really good local facility and social venue,” he said.
Work is progressing quickly at the former Irish Road Motors site at Highfield.
Mr Anderson said around 30-35 full and part-time staff will be employed with 65-70 staff in the four restaurants in the complex.
The Omniplex owner said the Craigavon complex will have a ‘soft opening’ prior to Easter and soon after will have an official opening.
