Three children under ten years old and two adults were rescued after a 27ft cruiser struck rocks at a notoriously dangerous area of Lough Neagh.

HM Coastguard sent Lough Neagh Rescue’s Ardboe and Kinnego lifeboats to the Skane Flats area, just north of Kinnego Bay at 5.58pm last Thursday (July 17).

The cruiser was taking on water with two adults and three children on board.

“Both lifeboats were quickly on the scene. Ardboe crew took casualties off the vessel onto the lifeboat while Kinnego lifeboat managed to save the vessel and bring back to Kinnego Marina where the casualties where handed into the care of the local coastguard team.”
