Top pipe bands tune up for championship

British Champions, Bleary and District Pipe Band, along with Marlacoo and Battlehill bands, will be showcasing their talents at a major competition tomorrow (Saturday).

The Craigavon & District Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships will take place in Lurgan Park, starting at 11am.

Meanwhile, top Scottish traditional music group The Battlefield Band have been confirmed as one of the main acts for the cultural stage.

They will be joined by folk group Blackthorn, award-winning musicians Crooked Jack Ireland and the newest group to the cultural music scene, Síoda.

There will also be a special performance from one of Northern Ireland’s top juvenile bands – the Ulster-Scots Agency Juvenile Pipe Band.

World Champions Field Marshal Montgomery will join other Grade 1 Pipe Bands – St Laurence O’Toole, Ravara and Cullybackey - whilst other competitors include Manorcunningham (Letterkenny), Thiepval Memorial (Co Donegal) and Arklow (Co Wicklow).

There will be face painting, bouncy castle, a fairground and a range of food. Admission is £5 or free for 18s and under.
