TUV candidates in the ABC council area have called for all unionist parties - “especially DUP” - to ensure that their supporters transfer their votes down the card to all pro-union contestants.
The plea comes in a joint statement from Paul Coleman (Portadown), Roy Ferguson (Lurgan) and Samuel Morrison (Lagan River), who claim that “recent statements from numerous DUP spokespeople about vote splitting are disingenuous in the extreme”.
The statement adds, “You cannot split the vote in a PR election as long as you transfer down the Unionist ticket. We are disappointed that Peter Robinson has not entered into the same spirit of Unionist co-operation by encouraging voters to transfer to the TUV.Perhaps he has forgotten that at the last European Election, the 25,000 votes from TUV’s Jim Allister saw their candidate Diane Dodds elected.
“A vote for TUV is not only a vote for change but it also allows voters to record their verdict on the DUP’s stewardship in government with Sinn Fein, and the poor form of collective government offered by the Stormont Executive. Only a vote for the TUV will be seen in these terms.”
