Used foil-lined bag to steal alcohol

Using a foil-lined bag a 55-year-old man stole three bottles of alcohol from Asda in Portadown, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

He was Vytantas Versechas, Clonavon Acenue, Portadown.

For the theft of the alcohol, valued at £90, on December 2 last year he was fined £150 and he was also fined £150 for going equipped for theft.

A £300 fine was imposed for the theft of cutlery and a leather bag from TK Maxx on March 4 this year.

The court heard that on December 2 the defendant went into Asda with a foil-lined bag.

He took three bottles of alcohol and left without paying. He was stopped by security staff and arrested by police.

The defendant said he had found the bag beside a bin before he went into the store.

On March 4 he was seen by staff in TK Maxx. He took a brown leather bag and put five sets of cutlery into it before leaving without paying.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said his client’s alcohol addiction was the reason for his shoplifting.
