A Portadown woman was caught up in the floods that swept the French Riveria at the weekend.
Pensioner Mrs Mona Treanor was left helpless when several of feet of water flowed through her cottage as a reported 10 per cent of the annual rainfall teamed down on the Côte d’Azur.
A reported 17 people perished in the flash floods that affected the coastal area around Nice and Cannes, with one of the fatalities close to Mrs Treanor’s cottage.
She arrived home by Monday, but was too upset and traumatised to speak about the tragedy. A member of the family said, “She couldn’t face an interview.”
Cities like Cannes and Nice were badly affected with roads closed and 100,000 homes left without power.
