Good times for Bleary Young Farmers

BLEARY Young Farmers certainly enjoyed a successful year in 2012 and a bright beginning to 2013.

From keep fit, fitness nights, bowling and go-karting, to spinning a few decks at the Cool FM studio, where they presented a cheque for £400 to the radio station’s charity Cash for Kids, it’s been a busy time. The money was raised at the tractor run held last year.

A lot of talent was shown by all members at the cake decorating demonstration which brought out their artistic side, when they all had to make fondant sheep and cows. Just in time for Christmas, Bleary Young Farmers were kindly shown some butchery skills by W.J Holmes Butchers, such as boning out, stuffing chickens and sausage linking.

Turning from the usual day to day farm animals, the club had a great evening getting up close and personal with a few cold blooded creatures. Brian from Belfast City Reptiles introduced members to Biscuit the Boa Constrictor. At over 14ft long, Gary the giant African snail, venomous frogs, tarantulas, and rats that he fed to his giant lizard.

The group also held their annual Christmas dinner for around 100 guests. A four-course meal was followed with music by Ronnie McKinley and assisted by compeer Leonard Shields. A great night was had by all.

The year was rounded off with the County Armagh dinner which the following members receiving prizes.
