WEEK five of the Armagh Potato Company Ltd-sponsored Winter League at Loughgall featured John Allen's 'The 19th Holers' with the best team score for the second successive outing thanks to 191 points.
The team’s best cards came from Adam Hunniford, Johnny McNabb and Cecil Brownlee (all with 39 points). Brian Nixon (38 points) and John Allen (36 points) provided the other cards of note.
The second-best team score came from ‘The Birdies’ with 188
points. The best cards came from Neil Cromwell (40 points), Stephen Wilson and Mal Cullen (both 38 points) and John Currie (37 points).
In third, ‘The Eagles’ scored 187 points. The best scorers were Alan McCartney (39 points), Joel Kennedy and David McAdam (both 38 points) and Stephen Mullan (37 points).
Next up, ‘The Shankers’ scored 185 points. Harry Clougher, Charlie Johnston and Karl Judt each scored 39 points, with Harry Scott contributing 35 points.
In fifth place were ‘The Hackers’ with 177 points. The best cards came from Alan Pedlow (41 points), Ben McAllister (38 points) and Neil Walker (36 points).
Finishing last were ‘The Bandits’ with 171 points. The best cards came from Pat Keegan (37 points) and Keith Campbell (36 points).
Six players scored a ‘two’ at the weekend, with Stephen Mullan getting a pair at the fifth and 11th holes. Alan Pedlow achieved his at the third hole. David McAdam, Dessie Hughes and Keith Campbell each got a ‘two’ at the fifth hole. Neil Cromwell’s arrived at the 13th.
The overall standings are: 1, The Eagles 33 points; 2, The Birdies 31 points; 3, The Hackers 29 points; 4=, The Bandits/The 19th Holers 28 points; 6, The Shankers 22 points.
The event is still wide open, with only four teams qualifying for the final two weeks.
