BALLYHEGAN signed off the home programme in winning fashion by defeating Clonmore with a 2-15 to 1-14 scoreline.
An early Paul Courtney interception let in Shane McCormick for the opening score.
Clonmore county player, Brendan Donaghy, brought the teams level before Paddy Marley restored Ballyhegan’s lead following an excellent move from the full-back line.
Clonmore equalised through James Grimley and James Donaghy and pushed them into a two-point lead.
Ballyhegan’s county trio of Paul McGrane, Patrick McKeever and Paul Courtney combined and corner forward, Shane McCormick, finished with a powerful shot into the net.
John Grimley pointed to bring the teams level again on 15 minutes before Paul McGrane put the home side in front with a clever first point.
LEAD
Shane McCormick extended the hosts’ lead following good approach work by Mark Hughes. Paddy Marley, Rory McKeever, Mark McKeever and Patrick McKeever combined for the latter to score an excellent long-range free just on half-time.
Paddy McKeever opened the scoring in the second half after Paddy Marley had been fouled.
Clonmore had a shot saved by Jonny McKeever from Raymond M’Bennett before the Grimley brothers grabbed a brace of points and Mark Hughes struck for Ballyhegan with a fine point.
James Grimley and Brendan Donaghy scored two points from play halfway through the second half to leave this game level with 15 minutes to go.
Barry Murphy stormed forward and grabbed an excellent point. Clonmore responded with a point from play.
Kevin Keegan was introduced into the forward line and made an immediate impact, finishing a flowing Ballyhegan move with an excellent low shot into the Clonmore goal.
Clonmore refused to give up and scored a goal then followed this up with two points - even with seven minutes to go.
Paul McGrane led the charge with a point from play at an acute angle, Patrick McKeever - with a brace of points - and excellent 45 kick from Mark Hughes put clear space between the teams.
Mark Hughes connected with another fine score between two Clonmore points before the final score of the game was converted by full-back and ‘man-of-the-match’, Plunkett McCormick.
