PORTADOWN'S Adam Carroll (pictured) has dismissed reports linking the driver with recent Formula One testing but admits his dream move could still be on the cards, writes Patrick Van Dort.
Various media outlets suggested the defending A1GP World Cup of Motorsport champion spent time last weekend testing and talking in Spain with fledgling Formula One outfit, Campos. Although such speculation remains wide of the mark, Carroll is still h
olding out hope of securing a coveted Formula One spot.
"I wasn't in Spain for anything to do with Formula One and, to be honest, the situation is much the same as has been the case over the past nine months - that I just have to be patient but accept any deal is going to prove a long process," he said. "It is a waiting game when it comes to something as major as Formula One so all I can do is sit tight and get ready for the moment when I get that phone call, if it happens at all.
"There are so many factors outside of my control so it is impossible to state one way or another how everything is going to pan out.
"As much as I remain hopeful that something will happen in Formula One, nothing is done until it is done.
"I accept there will be a lot of speculation but I deal directly with the top people so know exactly how things stand and understand how many pieces need to fall into place before I would be in line for any deal."
In the complex world of Formula One, talent alone is not enough to secure a drive in motorsport's most high-profile class and an alternative option for Carroll could be a seat related to the Indy Racing League in America.
"I just have to stay patient but that has been the case since the end of the A1GP season," said Carroll. "All I can do is concentrate on preparing for whatever opportunity comes my way.
"If it is in Formula One that would be brilliant but if it is in America or something else then I need to be ready.
"I have spent a lot of time training and getting myself into the best physical shape possible for my next challenge."
