MOTORSPORT: FISICHELLA Motor Sport International's Adam Carroll had his hopes of a perfect GP2 comeback ruined by clutch problems in Turkey last weekend.
Despite never having sat in the new car before the weekend, the Portadown ace qualified in third for the race and started from pole position.
A difficult start left Carroll down the field before he worked a way back up again and eventually settl
ed for eighth position despite clutch problems.
Due to the reverse grid, Carroll started the sprint race from pole position - but the excitement was short-lived as, once again, clutch problems robbed him of any chance of victory.
“I’ve really enjoyed the weekend and it’s good to be back with the team,” said Carroll, who recently wrapped up the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport campaign with Team Ireland. “It was a real shame about the sprint race because we had a cracking chance to win.
“The car felt good on the warm-up and my initial start was very good but when I took second gear the clutch just went and that was that.
“With the previous race, I was disappointed with my start and really don’t know why that happened.
“It was really important for me to do the full race distance in the new car as it’s a bit different to drive so that was a positive and we had good pace throughout the race.”
