THE members of Portadown's longest-serving supporters' club have dispatched a letter to Shamrock Park outlining the sense of frustration felt by another season of failure.
Comments at the Shamrock Reds AGM resulted in officials putting concerns on paper and sending a copy to the parent club - as well as notifying The Portadown Times.
“As a group, we have backed Portadown for over 40 years but feel that the effort displayed this season by the management and players, at times, dropped below what should be expected from a club of our stature,” said a Shamrock Reds spokesman. “We would hope that every effort be deployed to prevent a reoccurrence in the future.
“It is not just a kneejerk reaction to a disappointing season but rather the culmination of increasing frustrations developed over the past few years.
“In terms of travelling support, numbers have been falling at an alarming rate for some time and this trend, in turn, restricts the financial backing the fans’ groups can offer to Portadown.
“The decision to notify Portadown of these grievances in writing was not made lightly but we felt it was time to make clear our fears for the future of the club.”
