EDDIE Cassells put the visitors into the lead with a comprehensive win over the Travellers' old campaigner Jackie McCall.
The in-form Cassells gratefully accepted any scoring chances that came his way and quickly established a healthy lead.
M
cCall tried hard but never quite got into his true potting form and Cassells cruised to a comfortable and deserved 63-14 victory.
Harry Cunningham then doubled his side's lead when he beat the Travellers' captain Jimmy Hawthorne.
This was a relatively low scoring game which was mainly due to the colours being in safe positions throughout.
Cunningham brought all his experience to bear and, making the most of his chances, had opened up a gap with play coming into the colours.
A period of nip and tuck play ensued with both showing good skills.
It was Cunningham who eventually wrapped it up with excellent pots on the blue and pink to win by a 45-21 scoreline.
Eddie Quin then kept his side in the match when he beat Kenny Craig in the vital third game. This was a very impressive victory for Quin over a crafty old stager.
Quin was in scintillating form and potted beautifully throughout. Craig tried to bring all his guile and craft to bear but simply had no answer to Quin's relentless potting and perfect positional play, and Quin ran out a fully deserved 84-37 victor.
The final and, also vital last frame, saw Andrew Walsh take on the Travellers' stalwart John Moffatt.
In an open, entertaining game, both players threw caution to the wind and accepted any scoring chances which came their way.
A few unlucky Moffatt in-offs, together with some modest Walsh breaks, enabled the latter to establish a 25-point lead.
It looked bad for Moffatt at this stage but he fought back with great gusto to level the scores. Walsh then forged ahead once more but Moffatt hit back to keep in contention.
Walsh then took the yellow and green to establish a 12-point lead, leaving Moffatt needing all three remaining colours to win.
Moffatt then converted a great blue and looked set to snatch victory, but his brilliant effort on the pink rattled in the jaws and refused to drop and Walsh promptly potted the pink to snatch victory by a few points.
