PORTADOWN'S bid to secure a place in next season's revamped 12-team IFA Premiership has ended in failure.
The Ports - one of domestic football's most successful clubs - were excluded from a spot in the Invitational League after missing by a matter of minutes the March 31 deadline for applications.
An appeal by the club against this IFA executive committee ruling was heard on Monday night.
It was announced in an official statement this afternoon that "the IFA appeals board, after hearing lengthy and detailed submissions from Portadown Football Club, unanimously agreed to reject Portadown Football Club's appeal on the basis that the required documentation was not submitted on or before the deadline set by the Association. Therefore the original decision made by the IFA executive committee on Wednesday, 30 April 2008 remains valid".
Portadown must now apply for a place in next season's second tier - the Premier Intermediate League - by May 31.
