PORTADOWN Boat Club captain, Kevin McDonagh, has expressed his delight at the early interest in this year's marascull event along the River Bann.
The endurance test from the Bann Foot over a distance of 9.5 miles will take place on Saturday, October 11 and is expected to feature up to 50 boats.

The host club will be represented by around 10 and visiting crews from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland have already signed up.

“We can expect rowers from Aberdeen and Carrick-on-Shannon, as well as some based closer to town,” said McDonagh. “The regatta is a major event for the club but we also put a lot of hard work into the annual marascull and it has been a welcome fixture for around the past decade.

“It is a distance event and key part of aerobic training.

“A briefing has been planned for around 12.30 and the excitement will build as we get closer to the big day.

“Irwin’s Bakery will provide tea and toast before the marascull, as well as meals following the challenge.

“It should be a fun day and, traditionally, the weather is kind.”
