ANDY Smith's contribution to the scoresheet and 2-1 success on Easter Tuesday at Institute has attracted praise from Portadown manager, Ronnie McFall.
The striker marked his return to Carnegie Premier League action from a long-term suspension by breaking the deadlock for the Ports during another energetic performance.

With Gary Liggett fresh from a two-goal tally last weekend and Aime Koudou now back following a two-game ban, McFall has plenty of attacking options.

“Andy still needs games but he certainly provided glimpses of his ability,” said McFall. “Competition for places is very important at this stage of the season.

“Although fourth place is still out of our control, the plan is to just keep on winning and then see how it develops.”

Portadown’s leading goalscorer - Gary McCutcheon - is expected to gain a detailed insight into the severity of his ligament damage in the next week following a recent MRI scan.

“We are waiting to get back the results of Gary’s scan,” said the Ports boss. “John Convery picked up a bad knock against Institute.”
