THE Tandragee 100 is considered one of the most popular and eagerly-anticipated dates in Northern Ireland's sporting calendar.
The meeting can boast a proud tradition, having provided race fans with countless thrills and memorable moments over the years.
However, a shadow was cast over Saturday’s event as, for the second consecutive year, the Tandragee 100 ended in tragi
c circumstances with the death of a rider. John Donnan lost his life in 2007 following an accident.
An incident on lap two of Saturday’s Supersport 600 race claimed the life of Martin Finnegan and left three spectators requiring medical treatment.
It marked another sad day for everyone connected to the sport, with North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club officials extending deepest sympathies to the Finnegan family circle in an official statement which also confirmed that a Motorcycle Union of Ireland doctor was at the scene and the incident is the subject of an investigation by the PSNI and MCUI.
Finnegan had earlier recorded success at Tandragee for the first time by winning the Junior Open, with Ryan Farquhar and Adrian Archibald completing the top three.
Darwyn Young won the Support A race, with Mark Morgan the Classic champion
The meeting was abandoned as a mark of respect following the Dubliner’s death.
