DUNBARTON'S seniors maintained their impressive start to the Private Greens League season with another victory on Saturday, this one achieved at Newtownards.
The Gilford men were determined to add to the 7 points secured in the previous week’s opening fixture, and were delighted to come away with 6 more following a hard-fought 96-87 shot win.
The opening ends saw the locals struggle to adapt to the tri
cky green and despite holding a 4-shot overall advantage at the 5-end stage, only DJ Wilson’s foursome, who had stormed to a 13-1 lead, were in front.
Myles Greenfield and his men were tied at 5-5, whilst the rinks skipped by Stevie Adamson and Clifford Dennison trailed 3-8 and 2-5 respectively.
Ards were proving tough opposition on their own patch, and by the halfway stage DJ Wilson’s rink remained the only Dunbarton leaders. With Andrew Leckey in top form they now led 20-11.
Greenfield and Dennison were both tied at this stage (11-11 and 7-7), whilst Adamson and his men found themselves on the receiving end of some unfortunate running shots and so somehow trailed 12-7.
Dunbarton applied pressure over the following ends and managed to extend their lead to 8 shots by the 15-end stage. Counts of 2, 4, 2 and 3 helped Greenfield and company to a 20-15 lead. Wilson had extended his lead to 25-15, while Dennison led 14-12. Adamson trailed 15-11.
The locals finished strongly for the second week in succession to secure a well earned victory. Dennison and his men scored outscored their opponents by 10 shots to 5 over the closing ends to register a hard fought 22-15 win.
Adamson’s foursome played well throughout but conceded 8 shots over the last two ends to go down by 12 overall.
The heavy conditions suited Greenfield’s foursome, who carded a well-deserved 31-23 win, whilst the Wilson rink played superbly throughout to register a 29-23 win.
