PORTADOWN manager, Ronnie McFall, could be faced with problems not only adding to his squad this summer but also convincing those currently at the club of a bright future.
Gareth McKeown's recent switch to Crusaders is not expected to be the last exit from Shamrock Park - with club captain, John Convery (pictured), believed to have requested a transfer.
Although McFall was unavailable for comment, it is understood
that Convery is contemplating his future at the club following what is on record as Portadown's worst season in a 16-team league.
Failure to qualify for Europe or the Setanta Cup for a second successive campaign, plus the lack of a sustained title challenge, has led to McFall outlining the need for a close-season reshuffle.
A revamp of the players' roster may prove top of the manager's wishlist but his focus will also need to centre on talks with any unsettled figures within the camp.
Convery has another season remaining on his current deal but one player in the final stages of a contract and keen to make a fresh start is Marc McCann.
McCann has already been linked with a number of clubs and admits excitement at the prospect of another challenge.
"It is time to move on," he said. "On the whole, I have enjoyed my time at Portadown but just want regular football."
Another blow to morale was served this week when club officials received a letter from the longest-standing supporters' group, Shamrock Reds, detailing the growing frustrations felt by fans during the 2007/08 campaign - effectively a written record of the disappointment experienced by everyone connected to Portadown.
Although off-field difficulties may overshadow on-field concerns at present, one certainty is that testing times lie ahead.
