Annagh add Blevins to Tandragee Road panel

Thai Blevins has made the switch from Loughgall to Annagh United.

Thai Blevins has made the switch from Loughgall to Annagh United.

ANNAGH United’s derby date with high-flying Armagh City provided signs of encouragement for the Tandragee Road men on Saturday.

The 1-1 draw served up plenty of entertaining football in front of the IFA Championship 2 crowd boosted by widespread wipeouts across the area’s scheduled football.

Shea Campbell added to his recent run of fine form to help Annagh pick up a point and put an end to a two-game losing sequence.

However, Dean Smith - who has been appointed player/manager alongside Darragh Peden and Alan Murphy - felt a degree of frustration at the missed opportunity.

“It was important we got back on track after some recent disappointments and, certainly, the commitment levels were extremely encouraging,” said Smith. “In fact, on another day we could have come away with a win.

“A little bit of luck the right way would have made all the difference and we felt the ball crossed the line at one point but the effort was ruled out.

“Although we were coming off the back of a poor run, the message in the dressing room was to remember the quality at the club and perform to the highest possible standard.

“It was an excellent team performance overall.

“Shea proved, once again, how clinical he can be in front of goal if given the right amount of supply.

“We switched the formation to a 4-3-3- or 4-5-1 which allowed us to attack at pace but stay solid without the ball.

“Jordan Bell was as good as I have ever seen him in a long while and Gavin McMahon provided the minder role to help protect the backline and keep our midfield shape.

“Adam Hylands and Jaime Gardiner added pace and movement in the wide positions so it was certainly a step forward.

“It is frustrating we do not have any game scheduled for this weekend off the back of such a positive match against Armagh City.

“We will add some senior players to the seconds for our game with Coagh United in the MUFL Reserve Championship.

“Thai Blevins will also be included following his recent move from Loughgall and already his enthusiasm and energy have added something to our dressing room.”
