Annagh United manager Dean Smith will be hoping to cap a productive January transfer window with additional signings ahead of tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) league date at home to Limavady United.
Shane Mulgrew and Scott Rae have joined the Tandragee Road outfit on permanent deals, with Jamie Smith on board as a loan signing from Glenavon.
Back-to-back competitive blanks have limited first-team experience for the trio but Smith has been impressed with the players over training and friendly games. He is aiming to finalise paperwork on extra fresh faces before the weekend test against second-place United.
Victory at home would push Annagh above Limavady in the NIFL Championship Two table and Smith remains confident the creative approach to the league break will protect from any complacency.
“Adding in those players has helped freshen up the squad and the attitude across the board was excellent in training and friendlies despite the lack of competitive football,” said Smith. “Limavady have jumped above us but a win would change that this weekend so there is added incentive.
“We want to get back on track in the league for our first Championship fixture since January 3.
“We wanted to keep it as fresh as possible over the past few weeks and the friendly games helped players build up minutes.
“Francis McCann and Steven Park are still working back to full fitness but the rest of the squad is looking good.
“Shane, Scott and Jamie have done really well since coming in and it is also a measure of the club’s progress that other players have now started to contact us with regards signing.
“We will always take a look at a player then make a judgement at that stage.”
Kick-off tomorrow (Saturday) will be 3 o’clock.
