Armagh juniors’ inter-zone joy

ARMAGH’S juniors enjoyed a festive boost recently with success in the Irish Inter-Zone Championship group section.

Fixtures against Oriel and Lisburn in Hillsborough left the Orchard County juniors flying high.

The opening test was against an Oriel side in commanding form across recent junior events but Armagh registered a 32-24 triumph.

The highlight arrived on mat one when Andrew Robinson took out an Oriel bowl to score eight shots in one end.

Armagh’s meeting with Lisburn proved a must-win challenge based on the latter’s defeat of Oriel.

However, Armagh stepped up to the mark and produced a superb team performance to claim success across all three mats in the 30-16 scoreline.

Results as follows: ARMAGH 32 ORIEL 24: A.Robinson 8 J.Hand 9, J.Robinson 11 S.Hand 4, S.Breen 13 P.Mackin 11. ARMAGH 30 LISBURN 16: A.Robinson 9 N.Kerr 4, J.Robinson 11 S.Kirkwood 10, S.Breen 10 A.Carsen 2.

Special mention must go to the Whittles - Paul and Sandra - for devoted so much time to the juniors’ coaching schedule.

Semi-final and final fixtures have been booked in across late January and early February.
