A traffic delay left Brendan Connolly as a late arrival in Laurelvale’s derby against Lurgan Town - but the substitute enjoyed an immediate impact.

Connolly, one of two players on the bench due to travel issues, climbed off the sidelines and headed home Gareth McIlwaine’s teasing corner-kick.

The equaliser proved the highlight in Laurelvale’s final game of a difficult 2015 as Lurgan Town took the lead late in the first half on the way to a 5-1 victory.

“We had a goal ruled out early on for offside when David Sinton reacted to knock in the rebound after a Gary Hunniford shot,” said Mark Robinson, manager of Laurelvale. “Ashleigh Gracey made some decent saves and we created a few half-chances.

“I felt we were well in the game but got caught on the break.”

LAURELVALE: Ashleigh Gracey, Gareth McIlwaine, Johnny Hamilton, Lee Edgar, Jim Wilson, Gary Hunniford, Stuart McClelland, Stephen Whitten, Adam Woolsey, David Sinton, Vincent Mare. Subs: Brendan Connolly, Ryan Kelly, Chris Lappin.
