Defender scoops award
Ross Redman collects his first-ever 'Player of the Month' award from Mark McIntosh (chairman, Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association. Redman's Portadown team-mate, Kevin Braniff, finished third in the poll behind Stephen Carson from Glentoran Pic by PressEye Ltd.
FIVE assists and a Boxing Day derby goal helped Ross Redman claim his first Northern Ireland Football Writers’ Belleek Player of the Month award.
The Portadown left-back proved an essential part of the Ports’ December run which featured just a single defeat - when reduced to nine men.
Redman’s team-mate, Kevin Braniff, finished third in the latest poll - with Glentoran’s Stephen Carson the runner-up.
“It is an absolute honour to win this award, my first,” he said. “There are not many accolades for left-backs, it’s more of an unsung position, but it’s good to see we are being noticed.
“We’ve (Portadown) been playing well for the last couple of months after a poor start, when we had too many draws.
“But now we are aiming for the top half of the table and, as there is not many points between third place and sixth place, if we keep our good form there is no reason why we can’t still get a place in Europe at the end of the season.”
