Hanover fail to seal points
ALAN WILSON CUP (ROUND TWO) AFC CRAIGAVON 2 HANOVER 1
HANOVER opened the scoring on Saturday but struggled to shut down the Alan Wilson Cup tie.
AFC Craigavon managed to turn the tables with a goal either side of the interval.
Scott McCullough’s dangerous first-half free-kick delivery resulted in Hanover gaining control courtesy of an own goal.
However, AFC hit back in the closing moments of the half and moved into the lead after the break thanks to set-piece success.
“The defence was static when dealing with the free-kick that put AFC in front,” said Hanover’s Dean Crowe. “Aside from the poor defending, we also failed to take advantage of the chances we carved out.
“Steven Douglas came close late on, Richard Lappin had chances after joining as a substitute and James Sergeant hit the crossbar in the final moments.
“It was disappointing to grab the first goal but lose out in the end.”
HANOVER: Matthew Shortt, Alex Scott, Jason Woods, Steven Woods, Chris Elliott, Steven Douglas, Dean Bunting, Gary Topley, Scott McCullough, Steven Hyndes, James Sergeant. Subs: Gary Richardson, Robbie Gaston, Richard Lappin, Johnny O’Neill, Gary Wilkinson.
