County Armagh’s Milk Cup campaign will serve up the perfect showcase of the youth tournament’s international flavour.

The Orchard County boys must tackle visiting teams from England, Ghana, Spain, Colombia and New Zealand across the Junior and Premier group stages.

The mix of languages and playing styles should combine to hand those players selected as representatives of the area a memorable set of tests.

“It was certainly an interesting draw and now we can focus our preparations on those Milk Cup games,” said Dean McCullough, chairman of the County Armagh Milk Cup Association. “We have played County Tyrone already as part of our build-up so know what to expect.

“We played Swindon Town in a previous Milk Cup tournament and they produce decent sides.

“From what we have been told, Right To Dream from Ghana will be a massive challenge.

“They recently defeated Arsenal by 4-0 in Holland and have a reputation as one of the top sides around at youth level.

“For the Premier players, we have Real Sociedad, Alset Colombia and Otago Academy from New Zealand.

“This is what the Milk Cup is all about, giving the players so many diverse tests and experience of different playing styles.”

Saturday’s Dick Craig Memorial Cup in Lurgan handed the finalised squads the latest opportunity for match sharpness, with fixtures against County Down, Linfield under 19s, North Dublin Schoolboys’ League Select and Club NI 2001.

“It was another good workout and this weekend the Premier players face a team from Dublin, with the Junior squad taking on County Antrim.”

Full Milk Cup fixture details will be confirmed on or before Thursday, July 2.
