Portadown BB Old Boys’ weekend Mid-Ulster Shield tie at Caledon Rovers survived the weather and left Robert Love’s players celebrating a 3-2 success.
A bright start featured an effort by the Old Boys’ Lee Bonis which cleared the crossbar before David Marsden proved alert to prevent the hosts from moving in front.
Bonis picked out Daniel Macartney in the first half and the latter waltzed past the exposed Caledon goalkeeper to break the deadlock.
Bonis was in need of hospital treatment for hip trouble as the young striker’s second BBOB appearance resulted in a premature end.
The Old Boys worked hard to maintain the lead and second-half pressure offered hope of a second goal.
However, Marsden was on hand to make a save and 2-0 arrived when William Donaldson released Macartney to cross for Matt Donaldson’s fine finish.
Macartney clocked up another assist soon after as William Donaldson steered in a slick volley.
A late penalty kick and set-piece success provided Caledon with pressure across the closing moments before BBOB celebrations.
