McFall praises goalscorer Twigg
Gary Twigg heads his first Portadown goal.
RONNIE McFall was happy to move past the quality of performance and instead focus on the final scoreline today at Shamrock Park.
A debut goal by Gary Twigg – McFall’s only January signing to date, although the Ports boss remains working on midfield targets – proved decisive to see off Donegal Celtic.
“That is what we signed him for and Gary has a proven reputation for not only scoring goals but regularly grabbing important goals,” said McFall. “It was his first competitive match in a few months following the end of his season at Shamrock Rovers so those fitness levels will only get better.
“That now marks three wins out of four, with just one goal conceded in that period.
“Nothing is happening at the minute in terms of bringing anyone in but we certainly want to strengthen the midfield.
“We had Ryan Burns and Tim Mouncey in the middle today and both did well but Keith O’Hara is now ruled out basically for the rest of the season due to a groin injury that needs complete rest.
“Neil McCafferty had hernia operations seven or eight years ago and is struggling at the minute so we also need to monitor his situation.
“However, today was just about getting the result in difficult conditions and now we can push on.”
