CO ARMAGH JUNIORS 2 CSKA MOSCOW 2
IT was a day of mixed emotions for County Armagh’s Junior team in their opening game of the Milk Cup at Shamrock Park on Saturday.
Leading CSKA Moscow 2-0 at half time, Armagh looked comfortable and on course for all three points.
But two goals in as many second half minutes left Armagh frustrated with just a point to show for their efforts.
And for manager Gerry McKee, it was difficult to whether to look at it as a point gained or two points dropped.
“When you come to the Milk Cup, it’s vitally important that you don’t lose your first game,” said McKee.
“Saying that, when you’re 2-0 up at the break, you expect to go on and win the game.
“So from that point of view it was difficult to be happy with the draw.
“The players were all disappointed not to have. But if that proves anything, it shows them the sort of effort that will be required for the rest of the week.
“But we’re far from downhearted. Before the game we would have settled for a draw so we will get back into it against Watford.”
Armagh couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the game when they took the lead with just 30 seconds on the clock from Shea Conaty.
And on nine minutes the lead was doubled when skipper Andrew Hoey curled home a free kick.
But five minutes after the restart CSKA pulled one back through Egor Polyakov.
And the same player levelled the game moments later from the penalty spot.
