Two goals across the final five minutes helped Portadown produce a dramatic weekend win in NIFL Youth League Section A.

Glentoran held the upper hand entering the closing moments before Peter Campbell and Nathanial Ferris turned the tables.

Campbell was introduced off the substitutes’ bench to increase the Ports’ attacking threat.

The substitute fired home a superb goal then picked out Ferris with a slick delivery which the striker controlled inside the area and smashed home.

“It was important to get the win after losing the previous game,” said Chris Wright, manager of Portadown thirds. “For the second time this season we responded to a defeat by winning the following week.

“That is credit to the character of the squad and the attitude on Saturday was very impressive.”

PORTADOWN THIRDS: Billy Campbell, Scott Megaw, Adam White, Brendan Litter, Owen McConville, Luke Wilson, Tiernan Judge, Patrick McPartland, Adam Brown, Nathanial Ferris, Thomas Aston. Subs: Peter Campbell, Mark Johnston, Nedas Maciulaitis, Shea Gerity, Joel Copes.

The thirds entertain Cliftonville at Kernan Playing Fields tomorrow (Saturday) from 11 o’clock in NIFL Youth League Section A.
