Portadown Times sports editor Patrick Van Dort turns the spotlight on a former Ports player:
NAME: Robert Casey
POSITION: All of them! The centre of midfield was my favourite.
TIME WITH PORTS: 1991/92-1998/99 (I should never have left).
CLUBS BEFORE PORTADOWN: Newry Celtic.
CLUBS AFTER PORTADOWN: Newry Town, Armagh City, Distillery.
HIGHLIGHT AS A PORTADOWN PLAYER: Winning the Irish League.
BEST MATE AT PORTADOWN: Raymond Byrne.
FUNNIEST TEAM-MATE: Gregg Davidson
HARDEST TEAM-MATE: Davy Mills
TEAM-MATE WITH MOST SKILL: Philip Major or Joey Cunningham. I think Joey just beats Philip with his pace, physique, balance and all-round ability (Philip had none of those!)
PICK YOUR PFC FIVE-A-SIDE TEAM: Joey Cunningham, Martin Russell, Peter Kennedy, Vinny Arkins and Robbie Casey.
FAVOURITE AWAY GROUND: The Oval.
PRE-MATCH SUPERSTITIONS: I always had to put in my socks when getting on my boots.
RIVAL PLAYER YOU MOST RATED: Glenn Dunlop was always a tough opponent.
TEAM YOU LOVED TO BEAT: Glenavon (of course).
MODERN LIFE: I’m working for Vodafone now and raising my family. I have two girls and a boy. My young lad is a keen footballer and really wants to see the Ports play this season - maybe I can get him to the semi-final!
Players from Portadown reserves’ 1965 Mid-Ulster Cup-winning side have been invited to this weekend’s pre-match lunch to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
Anyone interested in attending the meal before kick-off against Dungannon Swifts can pick up a ticket for £30 - with the price inclusive of match entry, lunch, a seat in the Directors’ Box and half-time hospitality.
