Ross produces his own derby memory
ROSS Redman’s boyhood years as a Portadown fan presumably involved quite a few visits to the Boxing Day derby against Glenavon.
Now firmly established as a key member of the playing squad, the left-back booked his own place in the fixture’s highlights reel on Wednesday by producing a superb goal and slick cross towards Portadown’s 2-0 victory.
Redman ghosted into space outside the penalty area on 41 minutes to collect Kevin Braniff’s pass then displayed impressive footwork and composure to create space and find the net with a clinical finish.
“I cut inside and managed to check back into a good position then noticed the goalkeeper had moved early,” said Redman. “I just kept my focus on the ball and took aim for the gap.
“After we failed to score from the penalty kick it was important to take the lead.
“We were playing well even before the 10 men and could have scored a few goals over the first half.
“After the sending off, it was a case of stretching Glenavon as much as possible and even in the heavy conditions I felt we moved the ball around quite well.
“The second half may have left quite a few of the fans bored in terms of action but, to be honest, everyone just wanted the result.”
