Portadown-born Keith Rowland will lead out Ryman Premier League-based Wingate & Finchley for the first time as manager tomorrow (Saturday).

The 44-year-old former Northern Ireland international was appointed boss this week - with basement side Lewes offering Rowland his opening test.

Rowland’s professional career across the water included spells as full-back for West Ham United, Queen’s Park Rangers and AFC Bournemouth.

He can count coaching and management time with Aveley and Braintree Town on his CV before joining Wingate & Finchley.

“Keith is someone who interested me since he was Rod’s assistant at Aveley,” said club chairman Aron Sharpe on the Wingate & Finchley website. “I am more than surprised that he was available as he should be coaching at a much higher level with his CV and his ability.

“My job here is to look after the best interests of the club and ensure that we continue to punch above our weight.

“I believe that we have made an appointment that will benefit the club and I look forward to working with Keith as do all of the directors and members.”
