Gareth Smith grabbed the spotlight on the day former Portadown midfielder Michael Collins made his Rectory Rangers debut.

The striker’s hat-trick helped Rangers kick off the league campaign with full points from the derby date against Lurgan BBOB in Brownstown Park.

Collins’ arrival at Rangers attracted plenty of close-season attention and he enjoyed an assured first appearance at Mid-Ulster level from the centre-back position.

Striker Smith, however, claimed centre-stage at the opposite end of the pitch with three goals in a 3-2 success.

Collins and Stuart Rainey formed a promising partnership in the heart of the backline.

RECTORY RANGERS: Jamie Reavie, Stuart Treanor, Stuart Rainey, Michael Collins, Graeme Bunting, Ryan Donaldson, Scott Richardson, Joel McConnell, Gareth Smith, Colin Corkin, Alex Henry. Subs: Sam Woods, Dean Geddis, Andrew McCandless, Wayne McClure.
