Richhill’s Daryl Smylie arrived home this week from Sweden as a league champion.
The 30-year-old midfield ace helped Jonkopings Sodra to Superettan title success with a 5-2 victory over Utsiktens BK.
Promotion out of Sweden’s second-tier system had been confirmed before the game but now Smylie and his team-mate can progress as champions.
Smylie has made around 140 appearances for Jonkopings - having previously played for Ostersunds, Ljungskile and Kalmar since moving to Sweden in 2007. He played in the United Kingdom for Newcastle United, Stockport County and Livingston.
“This will be the team’s first time at senior level in 46 years, so the title has given the city a big lift,” said Smylie. “We average around 4,500 home attendance and, on a personal level, it is getting better and better.
“I ended up with six goals and 10 assists.
“Next season is going to be interesting and we have a young team with a really good young coach.”
