THE Street Soccer League programme attracted over 350 young people to fixtures in the Junior and Midnight sections.

Play in the competition organised by Craigavon Borough Council’s sports development unit was open to boys and girls aged 10-13 years old and 14-17 years old.

Community sports venues across the borough – such as the Craigavon Leisure Centre, Brownstown Park 3G, Churchill MUGA and North Lurgan MUGA – played host to games in a fun and safe environment.

The finals were recently staged in Lurgan’s Centrepoint – with Ivory Toast defeating Shankill in the Junior League. The Midnight League was won by Reem United at the expense of Obama’s Troopers.

“It was great to see so many budding footballers join up to both leagues and take part,” said Michael Ruddy, Craigavon Borough Council community sports development officer. “It provided a great chance for them to develop their soccer skills, have fun, take part in competitions and meet new friends, all under the watchful eye of qualified and experienced coaching staff.”

The project was funded by the Department for Social Development’s Neighbourhood Renewal Programme and Policing and Community Safety Partnership.
