Tandragee in seventh heaven

MID-ULSTER INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE
SECTION A
MARKETHILL SWIFTS 0 TANDRAGEE ROVERS 7

TANDRAGEE Rovers came out on top by no fewer than seven goals in Saturday’s derby defeat of Markethill Swifts.

It was 2-0 across the initial exchanges as Mark Bicker and Cecil Corbett combined for Paul Greenaway to convert.

Bicker turned from provider to scorer by steering home a corner-kick from AJ Gallagher.

Attempts by Gallagher and Corbett followed before a penalty kick was slotted home by the former.

Rovers had another penalty shout dismissed and Gerard Magee ended the half by hitting the post with a curling effort.

Rovers struggled to maintain the momentum across the second half but had Greenaway to thank for a pass slotted home by Corbett’s delicate flick.

A smart drive by Bicker increased the gap to five goals before Gallagher found the net in style from a slick free-kick.

Rovers continued to create when Philip Pedlow was frustrated by the crossbar and Ian Walker narrowly missed out two occasions before Bicker’s memorable strike wrapped up the rout.

“It was just one of those days for us,” said Steven Vennard, the Markethill Swifts manager. “We had players ruled out for a number of reasons then conceded two early goals.

“We created a few chances, with Ryan McIlroy hitting the post and Johnny Black close a couple of times.”
