IFA YOUTH LEAGUE SECTION B PORTADOWN THIRDS 5 TANDRAGEE ROVERS YOUTH 2

PORTADOWN thirds had three former Tandragee Rovers Youth players on the scoresheet in Saturday’s derby victory.

Ben Steen, James Wright and Michael Corrigan each made the switch from Madden Road to Portadown thirds and, on Saturday, helped Chris Wright’s men kick off 2012 in winning fashion.

“It was our first game since well before Christmas so I can only praise the lads for such excellent commitment and spirit,” said Wright. “We were 2-1 down at half-time but really responded in the second half, with the wind an important factor on the day.

“When in our favour, we opted to take advantage not by pumping high balls upfield but playing a nice patient passing game.

“Possession was crucial and our high-tempo pressing style also worked really well.

“Johnny Corry converted from the penalty spot, with Ben, James and Michael among the scorers.”
