MID-ULSTER SHIELD (QUARTER-FINALS) ST MARY’S 4 HILL STREET 2
SHEA Tennyson found the net on two occasions as St Mary’s proved too strong for Hill Street in the Mid-Ulster Shield derby.
Tennyson, Shane McGeown and Luke Carville finished on the scoresheet - with the Saints clear by 4-1 at the break.
“We have lost a few players from last season and suffered injuries before Saturday,” said Gerry Fay, the St Mary’s joint first-team manager. “However, everyone rolled up the sleeves on Saturday to see off a decent Hill Street side.
“We have also signed Conor Forker and Paul Forker so that will help our squad.”
An early James Slater corner-kick was met by Ryan McKee but Hill Street managed to block the effort. However, Slate’s set-piece accuracy led to the opening goal soon after as Carville’s header was saved but Tennyson converted the loose ball.
McGeown’s diving header capped another Slater corner-kick before Hill Street cut the gap.
However, goals in quick succession pushed St Mary’s into a commanding position following Carville’s finish off a drilled McGeown free-kick before Tennyson doubled his tally courtesy of an angled drive.
Hill Street scored a second goal but St Mary’s finished out in front.
