Thirds on the road

PORTADOWN thirds will return to play tomorrow (Saturday) in IFA Youth League Section B following a break from competitive fixtures dating back to December 8.

Chris Wright’s players face a weekend trip to take on Institute and the thirds’ boss is determined to mark the opening 2013 date with a positive performance.

“It has been a long time since our last game but everyone is excited,” said Wright. “To be honest, I count the Christmas period as very productive despite the lack of gametime.

“Players were handed opportunities to train and play with the reserves and that development is the most important part of what we want to achieve.

“Those not involved with the reserves to the same extent should be coming back keen to prove a point.

“Those players who did get called up now have extra motivation and should be looking to continue to work hard for future rewards.”

Portadown will visit Glentoran seconds tomorrow (Saturday) in the IFA Reserve League.
