Time for teams to join Midnight League

CRAIGAVON Borough Council’s latest successful Midnight Street Soccer League programme will kick into life on Friday, February 8 - with places still open.

Teams of boys and girls aged 14-17 years old can sign up in the five-a-side format, with four venues across the borough selected to stage group games ahead of the Craigavon finals.

Regional winners will enter the Northern Ireland national finals in Magherafelt.

“Indoor Midnight Street Soccer has always been a popular activity and we envisage a lot of interest again this year so we would recommend that anyone who is interested in getting involved to get a team entry form filled in and returned as soon as possible to guarantee your place in the league,” said Michael Ruddy, a Craigavon Borough Council community sport development officer. “We have games at CP Sports Centrepoint, Craigavon Leisure Centre, Seagoe 3G Sports and The Football Warehouse.

“All leagues will run from 9 o’clock each night up to midnight.”

The project is delivered by Craigavon Borough Council’s sports development unit and funded through Craigavon Policing and Community Safety Partnership’s (PCSP) application to the regional DOJ Criminal Confiscations Receipts Fund.

“The PCSP are delighted to work in partnership with Craigavon Borough Council’s sports development team to implement a Midnight Soccer programme for young people in the borough as a youth diversionary activity,” said Councillor Alan Carson, chair of the PCSP. “We hope the young people involved will enjoy the activities and realise how sport is a positive activity to be involved in.”
