Annaghmore set sights on championship final
ANNAGHMORE now sit just one win away from glory in the Junior Championship thanks to semi-final success on Monday over Tullysaran at the Morgan Athletic Grounds.
Success arrived on a 2-12 to 3-7 scoreline to set up a return to the venue for the main event on September 29 when An Port Mor will present the final hurdle.
Early errors proved the common theme in difficult weather conditions - with Annaghmore protecting the clean sheet courtesy of Matthew McNeice’s fine block.
John McCormack was then on hand to break the deadlock in Annaghmore’s favour following a free.
A foul on Michael McQuade allowed John McCormack to extend the tally before Oisin MacIomhair combined with Conor McCann for the latter to fire home the opening goal.
Tullysaran hit back to level the scoreboard but Annaghmore enjoyed a strong finish to the first half.
Oisin MacIomhair managed to create one opportunity for Michael McQuade before registering on his own as Annaghmore held a 1-4 to 0-6 half-time advantage.
Matthew Willis was then able to turn over possession and this hard work sparked a scoring spell with Shane Smyth, Oisin MacIomhair, Michael McQuade, Conor McCann and John McCormack key players.
However, Tullysaran managed to equalise at 2-7 apiece, forcing Annaghmore to regroup and rebuild.
Daniel McQuade and Shane McGeown each joined the match from the sidelines and added to the Annaghmore tally before John McCormack registered a free.
A goal for Tullysaran - despite Annaghmore protests - left play tight but a strong closing period resulted in vital scores.
Conor McCann capped his interception with a fisted point before Shane Smyth produced a slick strike from wide right to set the gap at a match-winning two points.
A SPECIAL fund-raising draw for two All-Ireland Football Championship final tickets and overnight accommodation will take place under the guidance of Geraldine Cullen. Tickets cost £5 apiece or three for £10.
