Mehaffey made the trip to Troon having enjoyed success in the Irish Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship and led for the majority of the event before slipping to second.

However, she took time out of preparations for Wales this weekend by looking back on the positives picked up in Scotland.

“Of course, once in the lead you want to finish with a win but it was just one of those days on the final round,” said Mehaffey. “I am happy with my play overall and sometimes you just need to accept it when the putts don’t drop and the breaks go against you on the course, as that is golf.

“It is important for me to learn as much as possible from every competition, win or lose.

“I would have been more disappointed if I felt mistakes had led to missing out but I do not feel that was the case in Scotland.

“When coming back from glandular fever I had decided to lower my expectations for the first two championships, so to come home first and second is a great return.”
