Nixon adds to his ’Blacker tally

GOLF BILL Nixon added pairs success to his previous week’s individual win by teaming up at Carrickblacker with Stevie Wray to win the Fourball Betterball competition.

Nixon - a recent winner of the Seven-Club Challenge - joined together with Wray to post 35.5 points over 13 holes, with highlights birdies at the sixth, 14th and 16th holes.

Melvin Hull, the Christmas Cup holder, partnered Derek McCoy to second on 34 points.

Next home were Colin Morton and Eric McAfee on third with 33.5 points.

The Singles’ Sweep was won by Michael Woolsey on 29.5 points.

THE Clubworld Travel-sponsored New Year tournament opened on Sunday with the first of eight qualifying weeks.

The entry list has attracted praise from the sponsors and Michael Connolly, the match and handicap convenor.

SPECIAL green fees for visitors and society players are now available at Carrickblacker: 18 winter holes - £12; Banbridge, Lurgan and Tandragee members - access to the course Monday to Friday for £10.

LADIES’ NOTES

THE latest ladies’ Stableford featured some high scoring across the 18-strong field.

Diane Coburn finished first on 26 points over Laura McAdam’s 25 and 24 by third-placed Helen Spencer.

The annual Winter League Dinner will take place on Tuesday, January 22. Members are reminded to view the menu.

Non-competitors are also welcome to attend the function.
