Robinson proves pick of the field with Carrickblacker cup victory

His nett 65 score at Carrickblacker arrived off a 12 handicap.

Robinson reached the turn in one-over-par and was on a six-over-par tally across the back nine.

The two-shot victory arrived over Ronnie Weir’s nett 67, with Pete Savage edging out Craig Black, David Ross and John McIlroy thanks to the countback.

Keith Walker added to his collection of gross wins.

Robinson will now tackle the Darren Clarke MS regional finals at Shandon.

David Ross proved the pick of the Thursday Stableford field with 40 points - with Darren Brown next in line over Dan McKimm and the gross won by Keith Walker.

The Wednesday Sweep - sponsored by Irwin’s Bakery - featured Richard Currie first on 33 points.

The section winners were: 0-10 - Jonny Grant 30 points; 11-14 - Trevor Stretton 31; 15-18 - Robert Hughes 32; 19-plus - Patrick Farrell 29.

The Monday Seniors’ 14-hole stableford had Liam Tennyson home in top spot on 34 points.

Eddie Atkinson lifted the low section prize and the high section went to Dennis McNally, both on 32 points.

Bill Stewart was the veterans’ winner on 31 points.

A visiting team from Rockmount collected the Mixed Open Greensomes prize with 40 points. Next home were Portadown’s Bill Nixon and Pauline Nixon-Black on 38 points.

Prizes in the Seniors’ Open went to visitors from Galgorm and Lurgan.

Keith Walker, Stephen Poole, Andrew Connolly, Craig Black and Philip McKeag missed out on Senior Cup qualifying by two shots at Concra Wood.

Wins arrived for the pairings of Ken McKeen and Rodney Kernaghan, Don Black and Keith Jackson and Lex Girvan and Stanley Jelly across the Cowdy event against Rossmore.
