Silverwood’s GUI success
SILVERWOOD has been selected as the sole municipal course to host play in the Pierce Purcell Shield’s Ulster qualifying second round.
On Sunday, players from Mount Ober and Fintona will tackle the 18-hole Craigavon Borough Council-backed course for a spot in the quarter-finals.
This will mark the first selection of Silverwood by the Golfing Union of Ireland as a qualifying venue for shield or cup tournaments.
“It is a great achievement, we are proud to be selected by the Golfing Union of Ireland to host one of the second-round games,” said director of Leisure Services, Stephen Fraser. “We are especially delighted to be the only municipal course chosen and particularly when you consider some of fine courses available throughout the province.
“We would also like to wish the Silverwood Golf Club members good luck in their round of the competition.”
